Clipper Round-the-World Race: Next Leg

Just had to add this leaderboard just before the weather changed 19:48:59 UTC + 2

43 comments:

  1. My theory on this leg numbering confusion is that the Clippers' PRO unexpectedly split Leg 1 into two parts. So that Leg 3 is actually Leg 4. They just didn't bother to renumber them. And our Blog host thinks he can get by by calling this chapter "Next", instead of for what it is.

  2. I was thinking I could finesse this...

I think Race 4, Leg 3 covers it!!

  5. Leg, arm, route, whatever. What I can't figure out is why did the Race Committee place a mark on Kerguelen Island? Did they specify somewhere which side to pass on? Or - is it that they are they trying to confuse me (us)?

They show us the red line to keep us out of the icebergs but again there is no mention of this in the race instructions.

Good thing these are only make believe boats!

  6. For the time being, I am 1 mile ahead of Contiguous so, please, no one give her/him any info or assistance?

  7. This is the french version of the VR news, which clearly states that Kerguelen Islands are to be left on starboard :

    http://www.virtualregatta.com/news.php?id_news=1159

The english version doesn't give this precision.

  8. Vladimir, apparently Belladonna doesn't comprehend the English language so well. Try Francais next time?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Gerry, do you really want to send Con to south pole ???

    ReplyDelete
  10. Vlad, don't play the ghost vessel, tell us your boat name :-))

    ReplyDelete
  11. You too, Gerry! What are you sailing?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I see the Race Committee put down their vino long enough to answer the question about which side of the mark to pass.

I guess I need to recalculate my great circle route!

...and leave the mark to starboard!

    Good luck.

Man - weekends can be rough when one leaves the reach of the internet. Gone for 30 hours and drop 4300 places. I flat lined at 090° - Ouuuch! I've got a lot of work to gain back.

So - which boat is Gerry's and which boat is Vlad's??? Mystery men. eh? Must be the shy type.

    Contiguous

At last we have wind... and plenty of it!! So far, I have been lucky and advoided any serious wind holes and I'm ready to dive south in 36 hours time. What would I do without Zezo!?!?!?

A the moment, Bella is exactly 200 boats in front of me so I have a steady target to aim for today. Rest of you guys are way in front except Contiguous. I thought that bying those 'comfort' options would allow you to stay below and only occasionally take a peek topside? I did see one serious (AO) contender do a sudden U turn and head back to Cape Town so I suppose a skipper is always needed on board.

Vlad and Gerry... where are you? In front or behind me?

    Sail on!

  15. Has anyone seen where the inshore regatta went?

  16. Vlad & Gerry I will leave to speak for themselves. I will speak up in behalf of Bailiff.

Bailiff is a better skipper than I am on either sea, liquid or digital. (Just Dessert: Bailiff kicks A in the Inshore VR!) When I inadvertently left Zezo's url on B's computer he frankly lost interest in MP's VR. He thought Zezo had drained the game out of the game, if you know what I mean. In any event, Mr. B has professional and domestic delights which far outshadow anything he can find among Many Players. I am very happy for him.

I am excited to watch the competition between Belladonna and No Going Back. As for Contiguous, no lead over that resourceful one is adequate.

As for Kukitol and Yachts of Fun? What cannot be said of their performances?

It is exactly 12 hours since my last post at WX this morning and I'm happy to report that I'm now exactly 100 boats behind Bella at WX this evening. Spooky or what?!?!?!?

  18. It's 11:00 AM UTC+2 and I'm now 204 boats ahead of you Paula. Keep trying, it's usually within the last 100 miles that you pass me :-)))

Thanks Doc, Bella and NGB were playing leapfrog over the last 24 hours but I see I'm bottom of the leaderboard again :-(

  21. I'm on my iPad so I can't tell what is going on....!

  22. Doc - 419 = pretty nice place to be right now. You seem to be putting together a rather nice run. Should be interesting to watch what happens with the next round of weather! Good luck!

I'm in !! (VORG that is) Not sure I like it though...

The VR rankings for Clipper are all over the place at the moment. We will get a clearer picture after passing the Kerguelen Buoy and hopefully I'll move up in the game. Right now I'm actually on Page 67 in the SO rankings - how embarrasing!!

Here's hoping for a pleasant surprise for NGB when I wake up at WX in the morning :)

    No going back

    PS Nice one Doc!!

  26. All over the place is an understatement. I've never seen boats go by this fast. I feel like I'm on ice going backwards down hill. What did you do to me Doc? Did you spread some of your giant kelp out to grab my keel?

VORG sounds good but the controls need some work. I tried every thing and I couldn't even change course. All I got was "ooops - something went wrong" The beauty of Beta. Good night West Coasters.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I guess I need to bitch more often. I set a personal new record of passing 5,357 boats in 3.5 hrs. Wow! Thanks for the kelp bath Doc!

  30. I am so far back now, my crew have begun digging out their fishing gear....

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is the quiet contemplative portion of the race where everyone is lulled into an acceptance of their relative position so much so that they are getting out the fishing gear? What sort of Corinthian sailors are you?

    ReplyDelete
  32. On my boat, the appearance of fishing gear implies the crew is fearful of the ship's stores running out before our yacht reaches shore.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Paula said...

I didn't bring any fishing gear, didn't think I would need it.

All my crew have been on constant watch and very alert the past few days. Despite initial massive gains after passing the Kerguelen buoy, we have continued to lose places and boats that were behind are now in front?!?!?!?? What happened?? Kukitol, Contig, any advice?

    No going back

  34. Well, back on the 13th, I said my position around 500 couldn't last. I guess I spoke the truth!

New target for NGB: Finish at Geraldton at #1500th or less!! A big ask as presently #1482th :-(

  36. Nice Going, Fukitol and Contiguous! And No Going Back, too! Paula is 22nm ahead of me at this point.

Congratulations Kukitol, up there will the leaders for the whole race ... and to you too Contiguous for that marvelous comeback !!

Thanks guys for organising all the drinks for the rest of us. I can see Doc from the keyside and the rest are not too far behind.

  38. I dosed off from celebrating with a glass of champaigne in my hand. As I awoke, Belladonna was walking down the dock. (I wanted him to find me under the table.....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorry Doc, there was such a crowd under that table that I did'nt see you !!!
