Transat Jacques Vabre

Trophy Wife alerted me to this event, which has been post-poned to Wednesday on account of bad weather.

I was about to swear off racing in Virtual Regattas due to my dismal finishes in recent events.

What's the Point (WTP)? I asked my self.

But then I thought of all of the unfinished Virtual scores I have left out there on the Virtual Ocean.

So I say, "WTF"?

So, for all of you
Unsettled Scores out there,

  3. I was so distraught with the postponement and a chance to race a multihull and a mono hull at the same time that I totally forgot about the VOR practice race. Sorry to those that wanted some competition.

The VOR dashboard ain't very intuitive compared to the clipper 2011-2012. I obviously need the practice. "WTP"

  4. Whoops, Belladonna! I think I better stay with the Clipper. I better stay with what I am still invested in....! I'll be doing the Clipper!

  5. I've been trying the VORG interface, and I must agree whith you, it's everything but intuitive !
So, I'm gonna follow the VOR day by day on their 3D view, but not race.

I'm going to try the Jacques Vabre monohull starting tomorrow. Fortunately, I was able to get assistance from Zezo!!

    Race you!!

    No going back

  7. I agree with you, Belladonna. There's nothing wrong with Many Players' format except their poor communications with English-speaking players.

Paula, I'm more inclined to race the Clipper leg because I've already put my money up there. Damned if I know when it resumes, however. Anybody know?

  8. Race 5 from Geraldton to Tauranga, New Zealand, will begin on Sunday 6 November

  9. I don't know if I can race with out an Open Container. Does anyone know if that is legal in the English Channel? (Or are we in the French Channel since we left from Le Havre?)

Then there is the dilemma of whether to use Zezu or not especially when I'm going SO and I can't program course changes anyway. I guess it's a good thing that I wake up all night long anyway.

The VOR practice race was interesting. It took time getting used to the new tiller but once you got used to the controls it was not so bad. There is much they could to to improve their dashboard. ie there is no way to measure distance - yet and the graphics could use some help. Trying to read wind speed was difficult at best. But - it was fun watching NGB run aground while trying to slip through a narrow passage.

Now the trick is to see if I can race 4 boats at once and not loose my mind! (If there is any mind left anyway.)

  10. I can't even race two boats at once. I love Cornwall. Especailly the Lizzard, the Helford River and Glendurgan - BUT - I didn't mean to go ashore quite so early in the race! I hate it when I get distracted. I need another Open Container.

Watch out NGB I'm coming after ya!

  11. NGB had a problem with her jib and lost 19,000 places - Ouch!!! I was wondering what happened. That’s quite a penalty. I told you I was coming after her. I didn’t think I would get near her for days. (Tried sending her this message and sure enough my "messaging" doesn't work - again. So thanks to Doc I can send her a message.) Thanks Doc!

I didn't realise you were so far back Contig, you must have had a great time and spent much longer in Cornwall than I thought :))

My position is now #18271th and you are not too far ahead at #16634th. I am throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to arrive in Puerto Limon before me!!!

    Race on!

    No going back

  14. C – Yes the Helford River was beautiful. One of the prettiest spots in all of Cornwall. I was fortunate to have visited there twice before this grounding.

Challenge accepted! Only 4,200 nm to go. Should be fun and challenging especially with out "Pro Sails" with it's "automatic" sail change option. It is a rude awakening to log on and see "ZERO KNOTS" on the speed display. Ouch.

    Good luck.

  15. Many Players messaging system still not working. Now I can't answer Bellaonna. Can be frustrating at times. Oh well - it's just a game.

This morning at 08h00 UTC WX, I was lying about 100 places ahead of Contiguous and our paths crossed briefly like ships in the night. Since then we have gone our separate ways and 16 hours later, C is ahead again by over 3,000 places. Contig... be afraid, be very afraid!! I'll be back!!

Belladonna, why no white smoke or trail?!?!? Are you still on board the pilot boat??

    No going back

  17. Bella's hitching a ride with the ProSails, clever lad that is. When will he remove his mask and run with the SO fleet? My guess is he gets more sleep by using cruise control.

  18. Contig, I'm all for anything that gets folks more sleep. If and when you reach my venerable age, you'll be for it, too!

  19. As I aleady said (first comment on this blog), I'm on the 50' multihull race, SO, for a change. That's why you don't see me Paula.
But I also will be on the Clipper, starting late tonight my time (06:30 AM !!)

  20. Paula suggested I add the following update on the Jacques Vabre Transat(she has a rough time submitting this from Ireland) :)

    Positioning battle on the TJVabre

    Many Players - November 5, 2011

A complicated start for a lot of skippers from the Channel crossing where they found wind conditions rather difficult.

But the Jacques Vabre is now well underway with - on the Multihull race - a positionning fight  extending over nearly 500 miles from north to south between the group led by CFMR Timovan (2nd) who seems to dive toward the 42°30 ', and of course the unavoidable SECE RKN already in pole position, trying to sail along the 43°N. Just above, Shouldlose, Kerbisou and FRA 19470 are trying to get around the bubble of high pressure, extending their route by the west.

The monohull race encounters the same problem, probably even more complicated given the delay in latitude. Many boats have already dropped the great circle route for a more "Nordic" path  to join as soon as possible the ridge of high pressure announced  for the next 24 hours. Currently leading Clarino and O Lucky Man should begin to slow down in favor of Zedstar, Passoucasse and mudma whose position between 45° and 47°30 'N seems much more favorable.

Golf78 and Jeffar Danfers are trying a passage a little more north, while Isabert, currently at 53°N, plays a big gamble because he has to fill a delay of 300 M in latitude.

In short, everything is open and you can be sure that the options will be multiple and unexpected until Puerto Limon ...
