After Tuesday, Even the Calendar Says, "W T F"

Promises, promises, promises....

Das Boot has her prop back from MarTec and her second coat of bottom paint. She is going to splash today, mid-day. Diesel Guy has to then fine-tune the alignment of her shaft. Because, as I have learned, the hull changes shape once it's in the water. So maybe the newly re-tooled engine mounts have to be micro-adjusted for that.

The first twilight beer can is tomorrow. I have two key members of my previous crew (they are pure gold) plus Trophy Wife (who's platinum). I've got a new recruit off the Club's classifieds: a  Frenchman. His plus is that he is a Ph D, so he parlez anglais. The negatives are he is leaving for the right-wing coast in June. Okay. At this stage I'll settle for a temp.

But I'm still looking for a knowledgeable mainsheet trimmer to anchor the rear guard. Maybe that'll end up to  be me, if weather permits Trophy Wife to drive at the Leeward pin.

I don't like the thin margin. If any of the above-mentioned pieces don't fall into place, I might have to scrub. Diesel Guy has to touch and give his blessing to the fooking engine or I'll be worrying about losing everything I have paid $,$$$ for in the yard.

Whatever. Sometimes, to quote Tom Cruise, you just have to say, "W. T. F."

  1. Hope it all comes together for you quickly.

But of course, if you sailed a Laser then none of the above would be a problem - paint, diesel, engine mounts, prop, mainsheet trimmer, crew, crew, $,$$$, etc.- and you would be sailing already.

    1. Yeah, but look at that shiny-ass prop!

    2. For a nano-second, before they remounted the almost all-new prop, I asked myself was it worth the bother?

  2. @Keep R.:

For some venues such as mine, artificial forms of propulsion are a matter of safety. I am strongly attracted to sailing solo. If I am not racing, I could and would do that. But only in an age-appropriate craft. Not a Laser. Back when I was racing Lasers, I never dreamed of the fun involved in sailing as a team. I don't like to depend on others, but I do like depending on others!

  3. Hi Doc, sounds to me that you need some of my tablets.

    1. If you had left a link to the tablets, I would be suspecting spam, Fuk! What tablets would those be? Something to suppress my envy of youth? Something to treat my Anosognosia? What?

    1. It was as it appeared, Melt. At 4:30 we saw no promise for air. The only pluses were that the rain was very light and there was no chop. But we had to decide at that point. I had just recruited an experienced mainsheet trimmer and back-up helmsman Who will do fine until June (when he switches coasts) and I didn't want to give him a miserable day drifting in a light rain. We opted for a couple of rounds of ale. It was a fun time, sitting with our Catalina 34 friends. But it did come up a little. We could have finished the race, if we had gone. And, I'm always a great believer in doing that, especially being away for so long. Das Boot is still a young boat.

I really wish I could get some of Fuk's tablets.

  5. Ah, as long as Das Boot's bottom is wet and the Skipper's palate is washed what more could one wish for than some of Fuk's tablets? Perhaps said tablets could help with a delayed thaw?
