A Tale of Two Cities

Henan, China and Sandy Hook, USA

Yesterday, a man with a knife slashed 22 children and one adult outside an elementary school in Henan province Friday morning, China's worst such incident in more than a year. But these kids were wounded.

Today, in Sandy Hook some guy killed 20 kids and 7 adults using three guns.

It's hard to identify crazy people and keep them medicated. But I think the Chinese have a better idea on gun control than we do.

  1. A system that allows deadly efficient military assault weapons to come easily into the hands of just about anyone is insane. Never mind that the Supreme Court has chosen to misread what the Constitution says.

And to use the word "control" with respect to our system reads out any meaning of the word.

Compared to every other advanced country, we are a disgrace when it comes to guns. And even after one more absurd tragedy, the gun nuts will still not want to distinguish between hunting rifles and military assault weapons.

  2. I was once a rifle owner and even a sharpshooter bar V. But I wonder why people who often stand on their 2nd amendment right to bear arms never quote the first half of that amendment: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state? It is called the National Guard. If you want to hunt or target shoot, I will not try to stop you (even if I do not approve). But why the obsession with military hardware? I find that disturbing.

  3. I just discovered that Connecticut didn't ratify the Bill of Rights (including the Second Amendment) until 1939. Can anybody tell me why it took them so long?

    1. Thank you for the names of those lost. As we say in my tradition "namuamidabutsu", which means "I entrust in the Buddha of Immeasurable Life and Light.”
