Clipper Round The World - 13th and Last Leg

For the life of me, I can't figure out why they say it's 1800hrs GMT +2?

That must mean it's either 1600hrs GMT or 2000hrs GMT. Why can't they just say which it is?

Euros just gotta make it more complicated than it is!

From the above dip on the morning of 12-July, it can be seen what sacrifice Open Container has paid to reach the wind line providing 16.2 knots. It's virtually the finish line. But I'm in it now and hope to reclaim 100's of boats before finishing. We shall see.

In the meantime, look (below) at the achievement of Marie Brunet! This is a boat my boat bested routinely,as I remember it, in the last VORG! That's her in 1st place! I hope that's where she finishes!

Open Container III is that large dark hull, way back in the leaders' wake!

  1. How about this? You got a powerboat bearing down at you at 11:00. Do you say 1100 in the a.m. and 2300 in the p.m.? I'm so confused. And it's 30 meters away to boot.

  2. You're doing well, Doc! I can't catch up.

  3. Better'n I never could have imagined. Otto's been at the helm. A chart should be up ASAP to show Open Container's progress before it turns sour on my watch!

  4. Baydog, if you got a powerboat bearing down on you, WTF does it matter what time it is? Before you look at your watch you had better reach for (a) VHF, (b) wheel/tiller, (c) anchor or (d) [best] flare gun!

  5. If you're not careful, you have a chance at finishing under 100th place!

  6. Cooper, Otto's last name is Helm, I think.

  11. Hey Doc, 224th position, not bad!! I squeaked in under the 1,000 position this time so I'm happy :) I was a day late starting cos I was dithering about actually going to Kinsale where there was a week long party. I didn't go in the end, gonna get in training for the finish of the next Volvo race in Galway instead. :)

  12. Actually, you slipped in under 10,000. But I've been keeping my eye on you, Paula. You made a great comeback!

  13. Thanks Vig...love the site! Fond memories of Whylicat and Marie Brunet trashing it out on the Volvo Ocean Race and yes guys I have to admit he did beat me! But Whylie had pro options...and MB had none if I remember correctly! Hmm!...wonder who that skipper was that installed MB's first toys?? Ha!Ha!

  14. Wyliecat is claiming earlier VORG victories over Marie Brunet when the latter didn't have the extra go-fast equipment. Doc, you're so busted!

  15. I suspect that all winners have access to route-planning software costing $1,000 or more. Marie Brunet's skipper is probably sitting on her own yacht somewhere.....

  16. No! No! No! Marie Brunet fully deserves her W. With people using different navigating aids, Many Player Virtual Regattas my not be exactly one design, but it should be level racing. In other words not every boat is identical, but close enough. We race boat for boat; no PHRF-style handicapping. I was rooting for M. Brunet all the way. Well, as soon as she passed me, anyways. I'll get her next time.

When is the next Virtual Regatta?
