Clipper Race 12 Round the World Yacht - Leg 12

Today sees the ten-strong fleet of ocean racing yachts which compete in the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race leave New York and start the race to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I can't tell GMT worth a bag of fish & chips, but the race is said to start at approximately 1930 local time (0130 GMT) at North Cove Marina.

Joff Bailey, Race Director, says,
This short race will be dominated by the low pressure systems coming off the US coast and the cold Labrador Current flowing down from the North. Fog banks and changing winds will make for similar conditions to the end of Race 11 as the teams stay reasonably close to the coast.
The real fleet is expected to arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia between 11-12 June. However, my virtual boat, recently renamed (appropriately) "Spectator Boat", will beat them all in this Virtual Regatta mode.

    1. All I really committed to doing was to beat the real boats to the finish line. But I forgot to check to see if I did. Think so?

    1. Every night Doc every night.
      Sleep that is.

Due to various reasons I need at least 10 hours sleep a night so it's just a question of waking up at the correct times to check wind predictions and altering course as necessary.

I see the lack of football has done your clipper helmsmanship the world of good as you are lying 3rd to myself and Yachts of Fun so don't loose your concentration.

  5. Hi there, I'm back. I traveled a bit these last weeks, that's the reason for not showing on Doc's blog and also for bad results due to poor and uneasy internet connexions.
In a few hours we'll restart our Clippers for a W to E transat to Paula's NGB country. Doc, will you start a new post for this x&nth leg ?
