Well it's all over for Open Container, now. See that red mass to the right? That's where the eventual winning boats will come from. They are now on a reach; I am beating. After the fleet rounds Cuba, the race boils down to a parade.
13 May 2320 hrs PDT
Halfway from Panama to Cuba in the Panama to New York City Leg. My Open Container III is beating at 42º trying to fetch the eastern tip of Jamaica, with the true wind of 18.9 knots at 87º. My yankee 2 is up. I'm happy about my current ranking on the leader board, but not with my position which is more important. In relation to my friends, I'm way out on the left wing. What do they know that I don't?

MT promises. You didn't even beat me last leg. You're going to further embarrass yourself. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete! ! ! ATTENTION ! ! ! ATTENTION
ReplyDeleteThe virtual race start time has been advanced to Saturday May 12 at 09:00 UTC which means, if I'm righr, 02:00 CA time on Saturday.
Be carefull all of you ! ! !
Listening to my VHF:
ReplyDeleteFukitol, Yachts of Fun, Contiguous, Belladonna, and No Going Back
OVER EARLY
Belladonna,
ALL CLEAR
Howabout that? A perfect start (for most of us)!
Hi Doc. Still awake at this time !!!
DeleteMe bladder woke me up!
DeleteWell the race committee haven't told me to come back over the line, I guess I must be going deaf, either that or I haven't turned the radio on.
DeleteNow that you mention it, the broadcaster never identified himself as the RC.
DeleteOpen Container III = 244
ReplyDeleteContiguous = 1999
Belladonna = 2568
Fukitol = 3500
No Going Back = 4009
Yachts of Fun = 5469
But Open Container is tacking on to port, reluctantly. Going to lose a 1000. Or more.
Well, you weren't on port for very long. My passing you was too painful, huh?
DeleteHow could that have been a consideration? You have never disclosed what boat you are sailing?
DeleteDoc, Vince the Prince, let's say the King, is champion ! Whaow !!!
ReplyDeleteYes! It was a screamer!
DeleteAnd you're nearly the Prince of the VRTWR :-)
ReplyDeleteI was away in France this weekend so a friend started NGB. Not sure how well I will do in the leg as I will be away for some of the time and only have limited access to my laptop for the next 4/5 weeks. Have you all noticed the new commercials VR play now before you can log on to your game? My computer in work doesn't support the videos so I can't get any access to the game on the days I am in work. Booooohooooo :(
ReplyDeletePaula, send me (or someone else you trust more) your password. We can pinch hit for you as time allow and as you need....
DeleteHi Paula, don't know what browser you are using or if it makes a difference.
DeleteI'm using Mozilla Firefox and I don't get the opening commercial and can still log on ok but if I use Google Chrome I get the commercial first like you mention so it may be worth trying a different browser if you can.
What commercial? Is it a Many Players or Virtual Regatta commercial? I'm using Chrome, and don't notice them. Maybe Paula's company's IT has recently modified networks?
DeleteDoc, As an SO player, every time of log on to VR, I get a random 20 second commercial video advertising cars, vacuum cleaners, logistics etc. Initially it was for Europa and Gold race but now also on Clipper.

Kukitol, I downloaded an add blocker for Firefox which helps but still getting the advertising on Chrome. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/7560/addon-7560-latest.xpi?src=ss
My employers are very conscious about computer security and everything is routed through Belgium so I may not be able to download the add blocker. One way around that problem would be to buy the VR iphone App.
Going back to France for annual holidays at end of the month so many thanks for your offer of assistance Doc, I will definately ask when stuck!
Right... back to sailing and trying to climb my way back up the leader board :)
Fair winds to all.
Here is another link to your boat which reduces advertising screen clutter and reloads faster

Watch out!! I'm gaining on you!
Too late to watch out, Paula. Everyone I know has passed me. I'm not smart enough for this fast crowd. Put a fork in me (as you go by)!
DeleteNever mind Doc there's still a few days to go and then there is always the next leg.
DeletePaula, thanks for that link, saves a lot of time especially when you think you've put your computer into sleep mode only to find it has shut down in the night.
Hope your annual hols back in France are great, doesn't look like I will get there this year, first time I will have missed for years, won't be able to stock up on the Pastis.
Fukitol is 17 nm away from me and closing. And I wish I could say that he was behind me. Reckoning is near!
ReplyDeleteSee my comment above!

ReplyDeleteooops
DeleteIt's quiet on here all of a sudden
ReplyDeleteIf I were in your position, I would be making a whole lot of noise, Fukitol!
DeleteAh well, going backwards now and I just don't know what to do, bit of a b###er really.
DeleteDoc is quiet because he's figured out that sharing so much info is not working out for him?
DeleteAh, nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more
DeleteI'll share this much: Fukitol is now in 20th Place. That's what is considered to be doing fuckingly well.
DeleteWay to go Kuckitalll !!! You dun good!
ReplyDeleteYeah. You finished 23rd. Sorry we weren't there to greet you and catch your lines!
DeleteWell never mind about that, at least you all joined me in the bar for drinks, cheers
DeleteAll of the toasts to you were genuine and well-deserved. It is impossible to overstate your achievement: 23rd!
