Clipper Round-the-World Race Panama To New York

Well it's all over for Open Container, now. See that red mass to the right? That's where the eventual winning boats will come from. They are now on a reach; I am beating. After the fleet rounds Cuba, the race boils down to a parade.

13 May 2320 hrs PDT
Halfway from Panama to Cuba in the Panama to New York City Leg. My Open Container III is beating at 42º trying to fetch the eastern tip of Jamaica, with the true wind of 18.9 knots at 87º. My yankee 2 is up. I'm happy about my current ranking on the leader board, but not with my position which is more important. In relation to my friends, I'm way out on the left wing. What do they know that I don't?

  1. MT promises. You didn't even beat me last leg. You're going to further embarrass yourself. Enjoy!

  3. Listening to my VHF:

    Fukitol, Yachts of Fun, Contiguous, Belladonna, and No Going Back
    OVER EARLY

    Belladonna,
    ALL CLEAR

    Howabout that? A perfect start (for most of us)!

    1. Hi Doc. Still awake at this time !!!

    2. Well the race committee haven't told me to come back over the line, I guess I must be going deaf, either that or I haven't turned the radio on.

    3. Now that you mention it, the broadcaster never identified himself as the RC.

  4. Open Container III = 244
    Contiguous = 1999
    Belladonna = 2568
    Fukitol = 3500
    No Going Back = 4009
    Yachts of Fun = 5469

    But Open Container is tacking on to port, reluctantly. Going to lose a 1000. Or more.

    1. Well, you weren't on port for very long. My passing you was too painful, huh?

    2. How could that have been a consideration? You have never disclosed what boat you are sailing?

  7. I was away in France this weekend so a friend started NGB. Not sure how well I will do in the leg as I will be away for some of the time and only have limited access to my laptop for the next 4/5 weeks. Have you all noticed the new commercials VR play now before you can log on to your game? My computer in work doesn't support the videos so I can't get any access to the game on the days I am in work. Booooohooooo :(

    1. Paula, send me (or someone else you trust more) your password. We can pinch hit for you as time allow and as you need....

    2. Hi Paula, don't know what browser you are using or if it makes a difference.
      I'm using Mozilla Firefox and I don't get the opening commercial and can still log on ok but if I use Google Chrome I get the commercial first like you mention so it may be worth trying a different browser if you can.

    3. What commercial? Is it a Many Players or Virtual Regatta commercial? I'm using Chrome, and don't notice them. Maybe Paula's company's IT has recently modified networks?

    4. Doc, As an SO player, every time of log on to VR, I get a random 20 second commercial video advertising cars, vacuum cleaners, logistics etc. Initially it was for Europa and Gold race but now also on Clipper.

      Kukitol, I downloaded an add blocker for Firefox which helps but still getting the advertising on Chrome. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/7560/addon-7560-latest.xpi?src=ss

      My employers are very conscious about computer security and everything is routed through Belgium so I may not be able to download the add blocker. One way around that problem would be to buy the VR iphone App.

      Going back to France for annual holidays at end of the month so many thanks for your offer of assistance Doc, I will definately ask when stuck!

      Right... back to sailing and trying to climb my way back up the leader board :)

      Fair winds to all.

    5. Here is another link to your boat which reduces advertising screen clutter and reloads faster

    6. Too late to watch out, Paula. Everyone I know has passed me. I'm not smart enough for this fast crowd. Put a fork in me (as you go by)!

    7. Never mind Doc there's still a few days to go and then there is always the next leg.

      Paula, thanks for that link, saves a lot of time especially when you think you've put your computer into sleep mode only to find it has shut down in the night.
      Hope your annual hols back in France are great, doesn't look like I will get there this year, first time I will have missed for years, won't be able to stock up on the Pastis.

  8. Fukitol is 17 nm away from me and closing. And I wish I could say that he was behind me. Reckoning is near!
